Contracts for 2009
Since February i've been on a full time contract for Content Formula. While this has reduced the number of additional contracts I'm taking, it has not stopped me taking on new work so please get in touch for a quote.

Web is what I do
For 8 years I have demonstrated my passion for design to a wide range of clients. I work in a sector I love, and I've learnt every day as I've created websites for companies both large and small. You can be sure you're going to get the website you want and the website your business needs.
I'm not just a self-employed designer, I've worked on extended contracts for a number of large companies, the most recent being a 2 year contract with the University of York to help set up their Centre for Enterprise, and train the students in enterprise skills. I bring these skills as business mentor, consultant and trainer with me to every job.

Form and function, code and design. All are required for a great website. The code provides the framework and the colour scheme, but you need a designers touch to get the content looking good. Finding someone with a combination of these skills is tricky enough, but add on top your requirement for a professional approach and a genuine understanding of your business needs and the field is very small indeed.
I come from a family of artists, and I bring an eye for design with me to my work, digitally creating graphics and layouts which make for beautiful websites, but with standards compliance and function retained.

If you customers cannot see or read your message, what is the point of spending the money creating it in the first place? Many websites are created with no regard for web standards or accessibility, meaning that customers using older browsers or who have visual disabilities cannot properly access them. This is not good business sense, and it is generally down to lack of understanding, or at worst, laziness.
All my websites are created to W3 standards compliant in whichever code they are created in. This means they work with 100% of browsers 100% of the time and for 100% of the people using them. Why settle for 85% when you can have 100%.
A Little About Me
I am a web designer. For 8 years I have worked in this sector, creating and upgrading websites for a wide range of clients. My experience includes bespoke work of all sorts - from scratch, from existing layouts and as the technical advisor working alongside an in-house design team. I really enjoy my work, and I enjoy the challenge each new piece of work brings.Not Just a Freelancer
I've worked on extended contracts for a number of large companies, the most recent being a 2 year contract with the University of York to set up their Centre for Excellence in Enterprise, and engage and mentor students in the small business incubator. My career so far has revolved around my technical skills, and I've made a real effort to keep on developing these. I also have found that I can communicate complex technical issues to non technical people, and that I have a flair for project management. I'm taking the Prince2 qualification in February.
